Supporting Our Families
Research has consistently shown that domestic instability is a core driver of persistent poverty and low upward mobility. Domestic instability also make youth more vulnerable to teen pregnancy, crime, and dropping out of high school.
More and more families are at risk of family breakdown because fewer and fewer Americans are getting married and raising children in two-parent households. The National Surveys of Family Growth reveal that among middle class Americans alone, 44% more children were born out of wedlock in 2008 compared to just 13% in 1982.
While recognizing that no easy answers exist, Our Ohio Renewal will work with local agencies and institutions to identify and scale workable solutions to the problems of family breakdown.
